Skydive For Life and Cancer Warriors Foundation

James and Elvin

We were finally able to hand over the Skydive For Life check to James Auste, the founder and head of the Cancer Warriors Foundation. Elvin and I met with him last February 16 at Greenbelt 3. We were able to collect P86,080 from those who pledged. I’m hoping that we can still collect the rest, another P7,000-P10,000.

We all talked for a while, and James gave us a lot of information about the cancer situation in the Philippines.  The survival rate is way below 50%, while in first world countries, the survival rate can be as high as 80%.   The group is now nationwide, with cells in many cities from Luzon to Mindanao.  The Batangas chapter, or cell as he preferred to call it, has the highest survival rate in the country, which is 77%.

He explained that Cancer Warriors needs the following the most: donations, fundraising activities, and awareness.

Interested in helping out?  Here are some of the things you can do:

  1. Donate – Click here to get all the details.
  2. Organize a fundraising activity, which is what we did with Skydive For Life.  Hold a party, then ask for donations from your guests instead of gifts.  Hold an office activity – give up your daily Starbucks drink together with your officemates and drink cheaper coffee instead, then donate the money to the group.  There are so many things that you can do!  :)
  3. Spread the word.  Blog about them, post about them on Facebook and Twitter, like them on Facebook and suggest their page to your friends, tell your friends about them…

To those who donated because of Skydive For Life, again, thank you for your generosity.  You are saving lives!

Until the next project…
